Christina Hughes - Flute

Christina Hughes, 26, is a native of New Jersey and began her flute studies at the age of seven. A recent graduate of the Yale School of Music, Christina received her Master’s of Music under the tutelage of Ransom Wilson. Previously, she attended New England Conservatory for her Bachelor’s Degree as a student of Fenwick Smith. In 2011, Christina won first place in the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, and placed second in the NY Flute Club Competition in 2013. She has participated in the Sarasota, Atlantic, and Aspen Music Festivals as well as the New York String Orchestra Seminar. This past summer, Christina was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, working closely with members of the Boston Symphony. She has performed with the New World, Albany, Vermont, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston Symphonies. In addition to orchestral playing, Christina was a founding member of the Trade Winds Quintet and traveled to Nairobi, Kenya in 2013 to begin their mission to provide accessible music classes and performances. Her primary flute mentors include Bart Feller, Mark Sparks, and Bonita Boyd. In her spare time, Christina enjoys cooking, yoga, and reading
